Lab manual
Two coins in. One strain out.
How splicing works
- Pick parents. Choose two to four tokens that already exist on Solana: memecoins, community coins, anything with an SPL or Token-2022 mint. Search by name, ticker or paste a mint.
- Name the strain. Give it a name, a ticker and a picture. Skip the picture and the lab breeds a pixel creature from the parents' mints, so the same parents always breed the same creature.
- Sign once. One transaction from your wallet creates the coin on pump.fun, makes your optional dev buy and seeds the strain's lab wallet with 0.005 SOL of gas.
- It trades. The strain trades on its pump.fun bonding curve like any other coin, and graduates to PumpSwap the same way.
- Its fees feed the parents. Every trade pays pump.fun's creator fee. The lab claims it and spends it buying the parents back off the market and burning them.
The point: a community can launch strains of its own coin with other communities, and every strain that trades shrinks the supply of the coins it came from.
Protocol
Lineage
A strain's parents are recorded in two places: the mutagen block of its token metadata JSON (slot, mint and ticker of each parent) and the memo of its create transaction (mutagen:<batch>:<mint>,<mint>…). Anyone can read both. This is a public record, not an on-chain rule: nothing stops someone launching a look-alike elsewhere, and a strain does not own or lock any of its parents.
The lab wallet
Each strain gets its own lab wallet, derived from the lab's master key and set as the coin's pump.fun creator. It never holds the strain's own tokens. It only receives creator fees, spends them on the split below, and keeps about 0.004 SOL for gas and token-account rent. The lab wallet is shown on every strain page so its activity can be checked on Solscan.
Mints and keys
The mint keypair is generated by the server for each draft and signs only that draft's create transaction. Your wallet is the fee payer and the dev buyer; the server never sees your keys and cannot move your funds. A draft that isn't signed within 10 minutes expires.
Fees and burns
MUTAGEN charges no launch fee. You pay pump.fun's create rent (about 0.02 SOL), the 0.005 SOL lab gas and your dev buy, if any. pump.fun's own trading fees apply to every trade as usual.
A keeper runs every minute. Every 10 minutes per strain, once at least 0.01 SOL of creator fees is waiting, it claims them into the lab wallet and splits the claim:
| Share | Goes to | How |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | The parents | Split evenly across them. Each share buys the parent (on its pump.fun curve if it still has one, through Jupiter otherwise) and every token bought is burned. |
| 30% | $MUTAGEN | Buys $MUTAGEN and burns it. Until $MUTAGEN exists this share stays in the lab wallet, marked as held. |
| 20% | The strain's creator | Sent in SOL to the wallet that signed the create. |
A burn is an SPL burn instruction from the lab wallet, so the parent's total supply goes down on chain. Every buy and burn transaction is listed on the burns page and on the strain's own page. Parent buys smaller than 0.002 SOL wait for the next claim.
$MUTAGEN
$MUTAGEN is the lab's own coin: 4DbiBxUySrECyJE8cBYR1tZZ98FZdqRfatvBVrqapump. 30% of every strain's claimed creator fees buys $MUTAGEN and burns it.
FAQ
Do I need permission from a parent's community?
No. Any token can be a parent. Strains only ever buy parents on the open market, which is the opposite of selling them.
Can a strain have the same parent twice?
No, each parent appears once. Order sets the slot colours (A cyan, B pink, C lime, D amber) and the bred creature.
What if a parent has no liquidity?
Its share waits in the lab wallet and is retried on the next claim. If it never gets a route, it stays there; nothing is sent anywhere else.
Is this audited?
No. MUTAGEN is experimental software on mainnet. Every keeper transaction carries a mutagen:<batch> memo, so the lab's activity can be traced on chain. Only spend what you can afford to lose.
